GST Council relief for alcohol industry inputs, millet flour to cost less
The GST Council, headed by Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, has made several decisions to provide relief and clarity on taxation. The council has lowered the tax on millet flour and foreign ships undertaking domestic cruise, as well as on molasses from 28% to 5%. It has also decided not to tax extra neutral alcohol (ENA) and has ceded the power to tax ENA to the states. These decisions aim to benefit the alcohol industry, sugar mills, and cattle feed production.
