Global body suspends WFI, no India flag for wrestlers at WC

The national anthem will not be played and the tricolour will not go up inside the arena when an Indian wrestler finishes on the podium at the World Championships in Serbia next month. Indian wrestlers will participate there as ‘neutral athletes’ because UWW – the sport’s global governing body – Thursday suspended the Indian federation (WFI) for its failure to hold elections in the wake of sexual harassment allegations against outgoing chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

SC slams trial courts for seeking needless custody

The Supreme Court on Tuesday expressed shock over some trial courts not complying with its July 2022 order to be liberal and grant bail to accused in cases when custody is not needed.
