Covid live: Active cases likely to fall below 8L

India’s active cases of Covid-19 were poised to fall below the 8 lakh mark, even as the daily death toll from the virus rose to a five-day high on Thursday. As many as 845 fatalities were reported during the day, a sharp rise from a toll of 689 on Wednesday and the highest since 917 deaths were recorded on October 10. Stay here for live updates

SC slams trial courts for seeking needless custody

The Supreme Court on Tuesday expressed shock over some trial courts not complying with its July 2022 order to be liberal and grant bail to accused in cases when custody is not needed.
